Touchscreen Kiosk Rental and Student Survey Case Study – Hull University Union
Hull University Union required touchscreen kiosks with software for a student survey. Every year Hull University Union runs a survey for students to tell the Union how they are doing. This year the idea was to place touchscreen kiosks in a key student area to get feedback on the spot. The touchscreen kiosks would ask 3 simple questions in a Emoji style survey, incentivised with a spin the wheel competition. Separately there was also a longer online survey developed by the Union in order to capture more detailed feedback.
What was done
We provided 3 EleKiosks (2 bright pink and 1 bright blue!) for the 5-day duration of the student survey. With their eye-catching design they were perfect for attracting university students. Hull University Union provided the survey questions and survey design. Our in-house software team developed the touchscreen survey from scratch. We built the touchscreen survey to run offline, so even if the internet was slow or unreliable the user experience was perfect every time. Survey responses were saved locally on each touhscreen kiosk. We programmed the touchscreen kiosks to check for an internet signal every 5 minutes. If there was one, survey responses were instantly uploaded to a central database, hosted by us online. At the end of each day survey responses were pushed into an online report with graphs, charts and statistics. With 24/7 access to the report, Hull University Union were able to;
- See results at a glance
- Filter data by date and time
- Filter data by questions and answers (with advanced logic)
- Export report to PDF
- Export data to Excel
Using SiteKiosk secure browser software, the student survey was also locked-down, so users couldn’t access the web or the the PC desktop. We set the touchscreen kiosks into auto-start mode, so that as soon as they were switched on they automatically loaded the student survey. Using SiteRemote, we were able to remote monitor and manage the touchscreen kiosks, keeping an eye on their performance.
We delivered, installed and set-up the touchscreen kiosks the day before the student survey started. The student survey was available from 10am-2pm for 5 days, with a Union rep present to help recruit participants and run the spin the wheel competition. The touchscreen kiosks and student survey were enthusiastically received by students, with a whopping 771 responses!
